| History: | Named in 1898 by W. J. Peters and A. H. Brooks, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), for Charles Willard Hayes, 1858-1916, geologist with U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) from 1887 to 1911. The first ascent of this mountain was made on August 1, 1941 (Farquhar, 1959, p. 222). |
